BTC vs BCH, what are the risks for Bitcoin?

I'm trying to get a grasp of the situation. Basically BCH got hugely inflated (to me It looked a lot like a big pump by someone with a lot of spare money/btc) during the last few days. This got the bch accolites and the community fairly excited and had bch to explode. As this unrolled, miners started to move to bch as It was more profitable and the original evilish plan started to become clear: have less and less nodes on the Bitcoin network which would decrease the overall hashing Power, which by consequence would increase both time for transactions to be confirmed and fees. If the masterplan to bring bitcoin down would/Will work, bitcoin might even get entirely blocked making the Bitcoin blockchain worthless.
Is this correct? Am I missing anything?
To me there are huge amounts of money waiting in the sidelines to see how the Bitcoin network Will react to the current Attack and won't be surprised if in the next few days price will spike as confidence on the stability increases.

Major earthquake in California. A major setback risk for Bitcoin?

A question that has been concerning me on-off is the possibility of a severe, 1906-style earthquake in California - something that the public continues to be warned of.
It seems that the San Francisco Bay area is host to a large concentration of companies active in the cryptocurrency space, including a few major exchanges.
In the event of a devastating earthquake, I could see a run on these exchanges happening, irrespective of whether their cold wallets are housed in earthquake resistant structures or not. There could be panic selling by short term holders whose primary concern is to convert their investments into fiat, hoping to increase their chances of getting their money back that way.
While the industry and many companies affected would recover, and whilst I am uncertain about the damage an earthquake in San Francisco could inflict from the broadest perspective, I do see this scenario as another reason why I would not want to leave a significant amount of money with any of those exchanges.
